Trump Calls for Immediate Resumption of Nuclear Testing October 30, 2025

Trump calls for restarting nuclear testing on social media as he flew to South Korea to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping:

Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump
“The United States has more Nuclear Weapons than any other country. This was accomplished including a complete update and renovation of existing weapons during my First Term in office. Because of the tremendous destructive power I HATED to do it but had no choice! Russia is second and China is a distant third but will be even within 5 years. Because of other countries testing programs I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis. That process will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Official PSR – IPPNW Statement

“As physicians and health professionals, we condemn any and all nuclear weapons testing and de-stabilizing posturing. Regardless of intent, President Trump’s statement is a dangerous escalation that threatens global security and undermines decades of disarmament efforts, including the 1970 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.”

Remarks by Ira Helfand

Appearing on Oct. 30 on “Democracy Now”

“If we really are going to resume explosive nuclear testing, this is an extraordinarily destabilizing decision, and one which will increase even more the already great danger that we have of stumbling into a nuclear conflict. . . .

This will undoubtedly trigger response by other countries that have nuclear weapons.”
