Protest Pinyon Plain Uranium Mine Haul Route!  August 13, 2024

PSR Northern Arizona will be joining the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club at an Emergency Rally to protest the hauling of radioactive uranium ore through the Navajo Nation. Please consider joining us on August 24. RSVP here. Meet at Grand Canyon Junction.

Energy Fuels Resources started hauling uranium ore, giving no advance notice to Tribal nations or the Forest Service. We will be holding a rally/protest along the proposed Pinyon Plain uranium mine haul route. The route includes hauling uranium ore along Highway 64, through communities such as Williams, Flagstaff, and Cameron, and through the Navajo Nation, despite the fact the nation has a ban on hauling uranium ore through their communities, and to the White Mesa Mill in Blanding, Utah.

The Havasupai and other Tribal nations, as well as conservation, faith, and public health advocates have long opposed Pinyon Plain uranium mine due to the threats to the waters of Grand Canyon and the Havasupai people, plus concerns about the haul route and possible spills. — Sierra Club
