Celebrate National Energy Efficiency Day with Rebates from the Governor’s Office October 1, 2025

It is a sad state of affairs on national Energy Efficiency Day to advise, “use it before you actually lose it,” but it’s a fact.
It seems that wasting energy in order to rally around gas and coal is the favored direction for the current administration and also the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) and APS, the state’s largest utility.
The ACC on Sept. 18 unanimously voted to scrub its Renewable Energy Standard and Tariff (REST) rules that required utilities to deliver at least 15% renewables by this year, 2025. REST was adopted in 2006.
APS in August announced it would “abandon” its commitment to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050 and immediately end its short-term emission reduction goals.
At the federal level, Chris Wright, secretary of energy and an entrepreneur in the fracking industry, has pledged to remove “burdensome regulations put in place by the Biden administration” and return “freedom of choice to the American people” — as it applies to buying a new washing machine and other appliances, efficient or not. Energy Star could also be a thing of the past. And don’t forget that the EPA hopes to end the designation of GHG as a toxic pollutant in the Clean Air Act.
None of the above is acceptable to PSR, which is dedicated to building a clean, healthy, and safe environment for all.
But Wait, the News Gets Better
The very good news is that deals on buying energy- and climate-friendly appliances and other home-related upgrades are still available through the Arizona Clean Energy Hub, a program from Gov. Hobbs’s Office of Resiliency.
Also available, the Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates Program (HEAR), which serves low-income Arizonans.
While the $1500 rebate for buying or leasing a new EV expired today, Oct. 1, there are other efficiency-related programs to explore before the financial incentives end December 31, 2025.
What Is the Clean Energy Hub
The Arizona Clean Energy Hub is a website that identifies what funding programs are in place, how they work, and what they can be used for. It is designed for ease of use and addresses the needs of households, businesses, schools, local governments, nonprofits, and other organizations.

How Does It Differ from Efficiency Arizona?
